Research has indicated that an interior room was used to harbor runaway slaves on a route from Meadville to Lake Erie during the 19th century. Mr. Coover spent numerous hours in the coupolo searching for bounty hunters that were on the trail for runaway slaves. Legend claims that on a cold, snowy night you can still smell the burning of Jesse's cigar in the hidden stairway that leads to his lookout post.

Mound Grove Golf Course was established in 1993 by the Biebel family. It was their father's dream to keep "Mound Grove forever green."
